The boundaries of psychotherapy in quebec
aims to help participants better understand and become familiar with the Quebec law regulating the practice of psychotherapy and its impact on the work of non-psychotherapists. It also seeks to make the concepts covered more concrete so that they are useful in the practice of art therapists.
An art therapist who graduated from UQAT in 2013, Catherine de Lanux has worked with the Order of Psychoeducators of Quebec (OPPQ). In this role, she participated in work surrounding the application of the law regulating the practice of psychotherapy for members of professional orders, including efforts to operationalize the definition of psychotherapy as stated in the law. In the same capacity, she supported OPPQ members for several years.
THE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
1 -
Distinguish what constitutes the practice of
psychotherapy under Quebec law;
2 -
Recognize how this practice is concretely applied in the
field of mental health intervention and helping
relationships (recognizing the tipping point between
psychotherapy and other interventions);
3 -
Identify interventions that resemble psychotherapy but are
not considered as such, and therefore, are not restricted;
4 - Recognize vocabulary that is open to interpretation and
understand how to use it appropriately within the context
of this law;
5 - Apply these concepts to the practice of art therapy.
