Expanding Our Capacity for Joy, Gratitude & Awe through Drama Therapy
With Drama Therapy graduate students Meaghen Buckley, Paula Duffy, Elliot Maxwell, Jeremy Park,
Angela Tauber, Bill Wood and Professor Bonnie Harnden.
Current research points to the healing capacities of awe, wonder, and gratitude, and that positive emotions have the capacity to promote health and support the regulation of the nervous system. Drama therapy, with its focus on embodiment, is in an effective modality for harnessing the power of positive emotions to create a deeper, more embodied experience. This 2-hour workshop will explore the use of Peter Levine’s trauma resolution therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and the current research on awe and positive emotions. Through drama therapy exercises, we will explore the research in embodied ways with the goal of expanding our capacity for experiencing grace and joy and developing more robust nervous systems. No prior drama therapy experience is necessary.
